Sandra Wu-San was born in an Asian village under the control of the League of Assassins. From a young age, Sandra and her sister Carolyn showed particular aptitude for martial combat, but escaped the village together. That ended with Carolyn murdered by David Cain. In her quest for revenge for her sister's murder, Sandra took on a new master, O-Sensei, and became Lady Shiva, named for the Hindu god of destruction:
