When his wife Nora became terminally ill, Dr. Victor Fries devoted his life to finding a cure. With time running out, he decided to freeze her to buy more time for his research. His boss Ferris Boyle attacked him for stealing company equipment, causing Victor to be exposed to cryogenic chemicals, after which he could only survive in sub-zero temperatures. Wearing his cryo-suit and armed with a freeze gun, he became the criminal, Mr. Freeze.
